Khiram Prototype Works LLC was founded in May 2009 by Nestor Farmiga.

Khiram designs and builds precision optomechatronic systems for customers in diverse high-technology fields such as biotechnology, precision metrology, and micro-fabrication. Khiram’s mission is to provide its customers a secure bridge from research to physical prototypes. The strength of this bridge lies in Khiram’s extensive engineering capabilities teamed with rigorous project management. Security comes from our culture of scrupulous confidentiality and direct communication with our customers. Finally, a network of optics vendors and close relationships with several precision machine shops allows Khiram to provide the shortest route between idea and physical reality. Khiram is located in Rochester, New York, internationally known for its optics and imaging sciences industries, as well as for its precision manufacturing.

Khiram’s founder, Nestor Farmiga, has spent his entire career building precision opto-mechanical equipment for a variety of world-class institutions and corporations. He is now building a company offering the same kind of extensive experience and valued service to a broad range of customers seeking help transforming their concepts into reality. Nestor has worked in a wide variety of fields – from research astronomy to the semiconductor equipment industry to telecommunications to precision metrology. He has led engineering teams developing and building large-format excimer laser microlithography systems, complex telecommunication optical switch sub-systems, and novel interferometers for sub-micron surface mapping of precision machined metal parts. This work has resulted in 13 patents and a deep, hands-on design engineering experience in many areas of photonics and precision mechanical engineering. Nestor obtained his BA in Physics from the University of Chicago in 1991, and his MS in Optics from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester in 1993.
